Singapore Blog Awards 2011, Adonis Best Beauty Blog – Iridescent Skin that makes you go WOW

with one comment

First impression counts and physical appearance acts like a business card. This could also be the reason why there’s a sudden surge lately where many people turn to various beauty treatments and skin rejuvenation methods to achieve healthy skin and a beautiful body. That being said, you have to be mindful of your food, you are what you eat. An unhealthy diet coupled with toxins from the harsh environment, stress and restless nights, can further magnify the effects, making your skin look far from healthy. Thankfully, I was given the opportunity to experience a few amazing products two months ago which helped me attain a glowing complexion akin to a woman in love!

As some might know I’m one of the finalists for this year’s Miss Singapore International. I need to look my best and shine on stage. When I explained my concerns to Adonis, they offered me to try out the Origin Myth. Cheryl, my skin consultant mentioned that I have to make sure my skin has ample water besides a healthy diet so that toxins can be flushed out of the body. Origin Myth is ideal for people with dehydrated skin; acne skin; mature skin including sensitive skin. This treatment helps to enhance the skin’s healing process with its invigorating blast of oxygen, replenishing lost moisture and pumping up collagen levels, making the skin look dewier and supple through the use of Hyaluronic Acid. I believe that beautiful skin is never far from a woman’s top priorities in life as dull complexion could add on years to your appearance and makeup just doesn’t stay. But not to worry, dull complexion can be revived with the correct products, exfoliation and ample hydration!

Unlike most facials where you can expect a myriad of uncomfortable processes – especially the excruciating pain from extractions – Origin Myth is luxuriously soothing! After the usual deep cleansing with an oil-free milk cleanser, a gentle crème exfoliant is applied onto the T-zone to help ‘dissolve’ surface debris. My beautician then used an intensified distilled cold mist spray (unlike the common hot steam most salons use) to help soften the skin in preparation for a Derma Exfoliation – famously known as the Diamond Peel. Diamond Peel is a non-abrasive peel process to ‘polish’ the skin and also, a painless way to remove oil-clogged pores before an Oxy Jet gets down to business, working its way to  infuse my skin with a burst of oxygen. The results were instant! Within seconds of application, my skin plumped up, boosted by an intense infusion of moisture. Next, a yummy Collagen Masque is applied over my entire face to replenish essential nutrients and to aid in hydration before refined oxygen molecules in fine mist form were sprayed gently onto my face for easier penetration, stimulating massage to the surface of the skin. To end off this luxurious experience, my beautician helped relieve the tension in my upper back with an awesome neck and shoulder massage using Chakra oil.

My verdict after a week – this ultimate hydration treatment from Adonis provided a moisture boost that made my skin real smooth and ‘juicy’. Makeup glides on easily and it stayed that way for days! The diamond peel helped in diminishing all the tiny imperfections which are highly visible on camera. According to my friends, my skin appeared brighter, emanating a healthy glow.

This picture was taken today at Singapore Social Media Day 2011 at *SCAPE. How does my skin fare without foundation? :)

If you are looking for a new way to give your skin a makeover, why not try Origin Myth from Adonis to keep your skin looking fresh and youthful with a healthy radiant glow after just one treatment? Thank you for voting ‘Cherie Lee’ for Adonis Best Beauty Blog. Would love if you could vote once each day! :*)

Sanctuary of the Body – Revitalize Yourself with Chakra Mystry

I was greeted with a warm smile from my therapist, Shu Yi as she gave me Energy Plus, a concoction consisting of chinese medicinal herbs, dried longans and red dates before I was being ushered into a beautifully adorned room with dim yellow lights. There, she placed a towel and some private paraphernalia on the bed before retreating outside to give me some privacy. I shrugged off my little black dress and changed into their items, while I waited for her in bed. With a smile, she set herself to work with soft music playing in the background.

I was about to embark upon a journey traversed for centuries by ancient and modern cultures – the wonders of Chakra Mystry formerly known as 7 Haven Chakra Holistic Therapy, which is a body and facial therapy that incorporates the application and inhalation of the use of seven essential oils. Chakras are energy centers within our body and this therapy claims to promote the benefits of detoxification, circulation enhancement and stimulation of inherent chakra energy for distribution from within, balancing our 5 senses.

Time slowed down as she brought me through a slow yet sensual ritual. Before proceeding to massage a specific chakra spot, she would warm the oil on her hands using a intricate process, and each time she would offer her exquisitely oiled hands to my face, in effect targeting my olfactory senses, letting my body soak in the properties of the oil via inhalation. And throughout, as my senses enjoyed their escapade in a myriad range of pleasant smells, she would explain the effects each oil will have on my body in her sweet lilting voice.

After the exquisite inhalation process, her hands moved to the various chakra points on my body, and with long, soothing strokes, applied the beneficial oils to my skin, even as she smoothed out the knots in my muscles. She started first on my lower limbs, slowly making her way up my body. I closed my eyes and relaxed, letting her hands to do the work. I felt her hands kneading my muscles, targeting various pressure points with the oil. Aromatherapy uses essential oils to improve your mood and soothe your nerves. These oils are distilled scientifically from plants which can help revivify our spirits, relieve stress, spur the energy level and encourage better health, revitalizing our frame of mind. It was a luxurious experience as she utilized her unique prowess at releasing the knots and stresses in my muscles. She invited me to join her in the massage journey. She covered my lower limbs whilst I took my time understanding the nuances of pressure application on the chakra points of my lower abdomen and upper body. Together, our four hands took me through luxurious massage covering the 7 chakra points. It was relaxing beyond belief – a trip to seventh heaven!

After the dedicated one hour, I changed back into my dress again, had a cup of Energy Plus and left feeling thoroughly rejuvenated after the treatment. Beauty is not just about one’s face or body, it is about total wellness from within. Beauty can be nurtured and Adonis is the Key. I can see a remarkable difference just after one treatment of Chakra Mystry – a fresh dewy complexion and a refreshed mind. Thank you for voting ‘Cherie Lee’ for Adonis Best Beauty Blog. Would love if you could vote once each day! :*)

Adonis Beauty Tip: Drink 2 to 3 cups of green tea every morning. Green tea not only neutralises radiation, but also protects and enhances vision.

LMS Spotlights – For Acne Skin Care

leave a comment »

“Hi Cherie, are you available for filming next week on 28th March at 10pm?”

“Yes! Who will be acting opposite me?”

“This scene will take place at a hospital. You will be required to converse with Zoe Tay and Chen Han Wei…”

“Wow Zoe Tay, the Queen of Caldecott Hill! It’s my first time acting opposite her.”

“I will email you the script soon.”

*gasps in horror*

Question. What’s small, round and not cute?

This particular pimple announced its arrival the following day. At the most prominent position, right smack on my glabella – it’s the space between the eyebrows, above the nose! Talk about attracting unwanted attention…

Everyone has blemishes at some point or another. Whilst I don’t get regular breakouts on a daily basis, I live in fear when it’s nearing my monthly affair. Besides having a crime scene down under, these horrific pimples stay there, inflamed and red, for weeks. An ill-timed blemish can make a lasting first impression (obviously for the wrong reasons) and an important situation awkward, in my case, filming opposite two veterans for local television.

I can imagine this situation…

“You look very gorgeous Zoe.” *shaking her hand* “It’s great meeting you on set!”

“That’s very sweet of you, thank you.” *staring at my huge erupting pimple*

*tries to hide my pimple with concealer*

*waves* “It’s great meeting you again Han Wei!

“Hi!” *staring at my huge erupting pimple* “How are you? It’s been awhile!”

Or the worst case scenario,

“Lights, Camera, Action! Hmmm wait a minute… Your pimple is too distracting. I think we should just film your back profile.”

Everyone needs a little blemish control help from time to time. No one in the right mind would allow a pimple to be the center of attraction. Be it on a first date, a job interview, a night out, meeting clients, at social functions, on your wedding, etc.

I’m very fortunate to be given 3 LMS Spotlights devices to try out: LMS Spotlight 3, LMS Spotlight 8 and LMS Spotlight 24. LMS Spotlights are designed to look like cosmetics; they are sleek, stylish and discreet. LMS Spotlights can be used on external skin areas, including the face, back, chest and neck. Spots and mild to moderate acne heal twice as fast as their skin’s natural healing time.

I sought help from LMS Spotlight 8 immediately, zit-zapping it for 1 minute, 3 times a day. I held it directly on the affected area to get more concentrated penetration. To my astonishment, it’s no longer painful towards the end of the day and the pimple miraculously disappeared in less than 3 days with a slight faint mark, almost unnoticeable. Sounds impossible? Well, it is possible. Follow me on Chérie Beauty as I share more secrets with you on managing your blemishes.

Now, I have the best of both worlds! LMS Spotlights to beam away the sudden eruption of acne coupled with Estēe Lauder NEW CyberWhite Brilliant Cells Full Spectrum Brightening System to brighten spots for unblemished fair skin that radiates from within! I’m sure the camera will love me! hee

LMS Spotlights can be found on Twitter and Facebook too! For all the latest fashion, beauty, make-up and celebrity news, you can visit their sister page at www.facebook.com/lmsspotlights!

Are You Warm, Cool or Neutral?

leave a comment »

Did you know that you could look even more beautiful just by finding out whether you are a warm, a cool, or a neutral? The warm, cool or neutral spectrum of beauty is the color group that your skin tone falls into naturally. Colors are divided into pigments: yellow/orange tones for warm, blue/red for cool, or both warm and cool shades or shades in between for neutral.

Warm Color Group

  • Your hair is naturally black or brown (brown with reddish or copper flecks), your eyes are brown, and your complexion is olive or golden and tans easily.
  • Your natural hair ranges from light, golden to dark blonde, your eyes are dark brown and your skin is golden or olive and tans easily.
  • Your hair is naturally red or light auburn with dark blonde flecks, your eyes are either green or brown, and your skin tone is beige, tanning easily.
  • Your hair is naturally a reddish to golden brown, your eye color is blue and your complexion is light beige, tanning easily.

Cool Color Group

  • Your natural hair color is light to medium brown, you have either greenish, hazel, or blue eyes and you burn easily (but have naturally rosy cheeks).
  • Your hair is naturally a darkened ash blonde, your eyes are either hazel or blue and your complexion is very fair to pale.
  • Your hair color is dark brown, your eyes are blue and you have a pink tone to your fair or pale skin.
  • You’re a naturally light to medium brunette, your eyes are a blue-gray to light-green color, your face is fair to pale with a hint of rose in your cheeks.
  • Your hair is naturally red or dark brunette, your eyes are a very dark brown, and your skin is pale to fair with very rosy cheeks.

Makeup Colors for Warm, Cool or Neutral

Wearing clothes and cosmetics that match your color palette will actually smooth out and brighten your natural skin tone and even make dark circles, expression lines and wrinkles much less noticeable on your face.

  • If you’re a warm, look for matte eyeshadows in colors like copper, golden brown, dark gray, pale yellows or greens and an ivory tone to highlight your brows. Your best foundation is either light or dark tan depending upon your natural skin tone, and you’ll look awesome in a burgundy blush and copper lipstick.
  • If you’re a cool, choose pearl shades of icy pink, sky or navy blue, or frosted shades of lilac, pink or smoky lavender. Test a foundation on your wrist to see how it complements your fair skin tone. You’ll look great in a rose or mauve blush, and a light plum lipstick.
  • If you’re a neutral, look for varying shades under the ‘warm’ spectrum, concentrating more on bronze or autumn tones in your eyeshadows (you can wear either a pearl or a matte finish). Also go for autumn tones in your lipstick and blush.

Ways to keep your skin hydrated

Water Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. Water helps to hydrate the skin and remove toxins from the system. I drink more than 7 litres of water daily :)

Vitamin A Consume plenty of Vitamin A! Vitamin A helps to prevent your skin from becoming dry and scaly. It is also essential in the cell renewal process and promotes growth of new skin. Vegetables such as spinach and broccoli are rich in Vitamin A.

Vitamin E Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that is well-known for its high antioxidant potentials. Vitamin E can be found in many types of food. Olives, nuts and vegetable oils such as corn oil, peanut oil and sunflower oil are wonderful sources of Vitamin E. One of nature’s best sources is from the tiny wheat germ. To ensure a healthy dose of Vitamin E in your diet, include loads of leafy vegetables and fish. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, Vitamin E also benefits the skin most as a skin conditioner, soothing rough and dry skin and protecting our skin cells through its antioxidant properties.

Do not smoke or drink Cigarettes and alcohol dehydrate the skin.

Moisturize Dry skin can cause wrinkles to form. Use gentle cleansers and always apply moisturizer after cleansing your face. Select a suitable moisturizer that not only hydrates your skin but also prevent signs of ageing.

Sleep Lack of sleep can dry up your skin. Get at least 8 hours of sleep daily to keep your skin healthy.

Sunscreen Always apply a good sunscreen!

Lock up your moisture today

Our skin is exposed to damaging environmental stresses, pollutants and free radicals on a daily basis which cause dehydration and pre-mature skin ageing. Skin becomes dry and uncomfortable with a sense of tightness.

What is your current skin condition?

Two or more ticks to the above symptoms describe your current skin condition?

Fret not! I’ll be updating on ways to keep your skin hydrated this coming Friday :)

Healthy Skin: Radiance

Feel that your skin is lackluster and short of its usual glow? Overworked, extra hours, air conditioning and stress? Vitamin C is a fantastic natural antioxidant known for its ability to kick-start your skin’s dull, lacklustre engine. It helps to protect your skin against environmental aggression and is definitely needed for a healthy body. As an ingredient, Vitamin C is also able to neutralize free radicals that attack your skin cells which cause harm.

Five Benefits of using Vitamin C

Antioxidant Protection Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect against free radical damage caused by sun, pollution and cigarette smoke which damage the structure and appearance of the skin.

Enhance Radiance Vitamin C helps to refresh the skin and promotes skin radiance and smoothness.

Evens Skin Tone Vitamin C evens out skin tone and appearance.

Boost Collagen Production Vitamin C encourages the production of collagen in the skin which gives skin its smooth, firm and healthy looking appearance.

Improves Skin Elasticity Overexposure to the sun causes long term damage to the skin, resulting in a loss of elasticity and wrinkling. Vitamin C is crucial to the synthesis of various components necessary for the assembly of elastic fibres. Vitamin C helps build and maintain the skin’s structure, helping it to protect itself from within.

With Vitamin C, smooth, firm and healthy glowing skin will be the permanent change you’re seeking to find in your life giving that extra radiant boost you need for your skin :)

Knowing what your skin type is and what to apply on is important ~ Skin Care Regime.

What’s also equally important is what you put into it. In life, compromises are an easy way out but it should not be the case for your skin. There’s no doubting that the skin is the largest organ of the human body. Its main function is to protect our organs and also the first to show our health level and the effects of the environment and the sun. You need to know how to have a good nutritional defense plan to nourish your skin from the inside. Everybody needs a little nudge sometimes. Even your skin!

I will be introducing some nutritional tips to keep your skin healthy over the next couple of weeks :)

Skin Care Regime

with 21 comments

I received a couple of emails regarding my skin. I’m flattered :) Thank you for taking the time to write those wonderful compliments! And also to those who requested an entry on my daily skin care regime. I wouldn’t say this is a fool proof method but it works for me. I will also share the various skin care products I use for those who are interested :)

Understanding the basics of a good skin care regime will not only improve the overall appearance of your skin but it will eradicate common skin concerns such as breakouts, dehydration, dryness, dull and uneven skin tone. Everyone has different skin textures/types. Invest in products that will work for you.

If you have makeup on, always use a makeup remover before cleansing.

Cleanse The first step towards healthy great looking skin begins with cleansing. I’m using L’Oréal Pure Zone Deep Purifying Gel Wash. It deeply cleanses my skin to eliminate impurities, excess oil and dead skin cells. Choose a gentle cleanser that won’t irritate or strip your skin of its natural oils.

Tone Toning helps remove any residue or dirt. It is also great for restoring the natural PH level of your skin, preparing your skin for hydration. I love Placen10. It rapidly replenishes and restores elasticity to the skin but most of the time, I tend to skip this step.

Moisturize, Moisturize and Moisturize! Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated. I drink bucket loads of water everyday :) I use a hydrating sérum such as Chanel Hydramax Active Sérum twice a day after cleansing and/or toning. This beautiful ultra lightweight, super hydrating formula locks in the moisture and maintains my skin’s hydration. Chanel is rather expensive but the final results will definitely wow you.

Sunblock Sunblock is a MUST! Get into the habit of wearing a sunscreen every day. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Waterlight SPF 50+ facial sunblock is a beautiful lightweight lotion which protects my skin from harmful rays. It doubles up as a makeup base too!

Exfoliate Without the gentle sloughing off action, no moisturizer or treatment will get down to the right layer of your skin. I scrub my face once a month (I’m lazy) with St. Ives Gentle Apricot Scrub to gently exfoliate, revealing smooth and radiant skin.

Masks I love hydrating masks as it helps to replace moisture. I tend to use whatever masks I have on hand once every three days.

Follow these simple tips along with a healthy diet and you are on your way to beautiful healthy skin! I have to emphasize again, drink loads of water :)

Boost Your Brain Power

with 3 comments

Happy Children’s Day!

As major school examinations loom, anxious parents will want to do all they can to help their children achieve better grades. Here are some tips to boost brain power which I got from Mind Your Body :*) Hope it helps!

Sleep Getting enough sleep is absolutely essential. Most people know that I sleep less than 3 hours each day. Please do not follow me! It is definitely not wise to do so. “Sleep helps the brain to rest and recover and consolidate memories. Good quality sleep keeps the brain alert and responsive, while lack of sleep can lead to poor focus and memory loss.” Nevertheless, I think I’m least affected by sleep. My memory is too good to be true and I can focus even better when I sleep less. I’m grouchy when I sleep more than 5 hours :)

Sleep

Light Meals Avoid large meals or heavy meals in fats, particularly just before an exam. “When we eat a heavy meal, blood is diverted to the digestive tract and away from the brain. This makes us sluggish and sleepy.”

Diet Have a diet rich in fruit and vegetables, which will boost the immune system. This is good for key internal organs which directly affect the brain. Tip: Soupy meals with fish or chicken and dates. Other brain foods include black sesame, walnut, wolfberry and American ginseng. Drink plenty of water too!

Relaxed Environment Keep the home environment harmonious and free of argument. Reduce stress for the child so he/she can focus on his/her revision. Parents, please do not constantly nag at your child to study harder. It will just irritate the shit out of them.
